Fred Goldstein writes on international and domestic affairs from a Marxist perspective and is a contributing editor to Workers World newspaper.

The main themes in Low-Wage Capitalism were first presented in a document entitled "Reviving Marx and Lenin: Imperialism, a Colossus with Feet of Clay and The Collapse of the USSR and the Ideological Crisis" which was prepared for discussion at a conference entitled "Preparing for the Rebirth of the Global Struggle for Socialism,” held in New York City in May 2006 and sponsored by Workers World Party.

The thesis was later presented, under the title “Challenges in Organizing the U.S. Working Class in the Post-Soviet Period” at the International Communist Seminar in Brussels in May 2007 and was more fully developed for presentation at the IV International Conference on “The Work of Karl Marx and the Challenges of the 21st Century,” held in Havana, Cuba in May 2008.

The Havana presentation was translated into Spanish, reprinted online in Latin America and Spain, and widely circulated on the Internet.
